Mabel Nielsen, age 77, of Cambridge died June 10, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West after a long battle with COPD. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 15th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Rev. Del Schnaidt officiating. A time for gathering will be held one hour prior to the service.
Mabel Virginia Nielsen was born June 13, 1936 in Stevens, Minnesota to Francis and Lavina (Pitchford) Leigh. She attended school in Grygla and Thief River Falls. On December 4, 1954 Mabel married Donald Lee Nielsen in South St. Paul. They made their home in the St. Paul area before moving to the Coon Rapids/Fridley area where they raised their three children. Mabel and Donald later moved to Mora and also lived in Brunswick before moving to Cambridge in 2000.
Mabel died June 10, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West after a long battle with COPD at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight adult siblings.
Mabel is survived by her loving husband, Donald; two sons, Jeff Nielsen of Austin, Minnesota, Ron Nielsen of Ramsey; one daughter, Shelia DeSantell of Coon Rapids; one brother, Billy Leigh of Michigan; two sisters, Marie Grovum of Gilbert, Marlys DeVries of Rochester; one grandson, Joshua; and by other relatives and friends
